Jim Norton - Happy Endings

July 10, 2007 · Filed Under Radio · Comment

If you want to read a funny, sarcastic, gross book by a guy who makes me laugh every day on the radio, buy Happy Endings by Jim Norton. The Foreword by Colin Quinn is hilarious and the first few chapters are more than entertaining.

Research Firm Argues Against Satellite Radio Merger

If a King commissions a portrait, he might just expect it to be flattering to him. IE, What is the point of research when the conclusion is laid out from the beginning? This is pure lobbying, so why do they get to call it research?

The Stern Effect on Sirius

June 20, 2006 · Filed Under Radio · Comment

Bridge Ratings, which tracks satellite radio sales, estimates 1.33 million Howard Stern listeners moved with him to Sirius Satellite.

That’s about 11% of his former audience, says Bridge, which projects that at this point, most Stern fans who are going to Sirius with him have already gone.

Bridge also surveyed 3,200 selfdescribed Stern fans who didn’t go to Sirius, and found 41% either had settled for their second-choice morning show or didn’t miss Stern enough to get Sirius.

Another 45% said satellite radio just isn’t enough of a value to pay for it, and 9% said they stopped listening to morning radio altogether.

Bridge did find Stern helped Sirius close the gap on its competitor, XM. Recent satellite sales have been split about evenly, where for a long time XM had an lead. Bridge projects XM at 8.4 million by year’s end and Sirius at 6.5 million.

Programming Note

After listening to the radio today and hearing a man in the studio described as being “topless” it occurred to me that this is wrong.

Forever more, only women can be “topless.”

Men are “shirtless.”

Thank You.

O&A on Terrestrial Radio

April 27, 2006 · Filed Under Radio · Comment

Yesterday was the first show back on terrestrial radio and it was a pretty good showing of what is to come. It appears that O&A will now be able to get a lot more guests than they have since starting back up on XM. Yesterday they had interviews with Don Imus, Joe Rogan and Catholic League President Bill Donahue, who campaigned agains Opie and Anthony when they had their St. Patrick’s Cathedral stunt. It was clean, but it was still clever and entertaining even without the curse words.

I think this really is the best of both worlds with three clean hours and two uncensored hours right after that.

Opie and Anthony Taking Over for David Lee Roth? Part Deux

April 20, 2006 · Filed Under Radio · Comment

It looks like my announcement was a little premature last time, but now it sounds inevitable that O&A will take over in DLR’s markets sometime soon. The final points of the deal are apparently still being hammered out. Now all they have to do is not suck and build ratings.

Should be interesting.

One More Day Without O&A

April 3, 2006 · Filed Under Radio · Comment

I know this makes me sound spoiled, but I can’t believe after a week of vacation for Opie and Anthony I have to wait one more day for live shows. The boys deserve vacations and all, but I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to not have them back on Monday due to some travel issues with Anthony’s plane. I rely on their show (probably too much) to relax after work, and I was really looking forward to listening today.

I don’t mean to complain, but I guess it is a good thing that there are people like me who like their show this much.

Audio of Stern on Sean Hannity’s Radio Show

This is truly despicable. Where is the pride? Where is that sense of taking all comers? Sounds like the old guy lost his passion and energy for the game he created.

What a hypocrite.
