Gregg Easterbrook On Spygate
I don’t buy the fact that this is just random timing that more info is coming out today about SpyGate. Just like during the ALCS before game 7 when the media “found out” about HGH allegations involving Paul Byrd of the Cleveland Indians, it is the media trying to put themselves in the limelight during the sport’s biggest day.
Still, timing aside, if these allegations are true that the Pats taped St. Louis’ walk-through the day before their first Super Bowl win, in which St. Louis went over every one of their trick plays and unseen formations, then this whole deal could get ugly. Some sideline taping is one thing. Secretly taping a practice is quite another.
I do agree with Easterbrook that this could be the biggest cheating scandal since the Chicago Black Sox. Everyone who reads this blog knows that I don’t like the Pats. Still, I would never wish any of this on the game of football and the NFL. This isn’t good for anyone including people who dislike the Pats.
I dislike the Pats because they have been so damn dominant and because Bill Belichick sucked so badly when he was in Cleveland. I would hate to think that my hate of this team would come up being tainted by some bona fide cheating, rather than just competitive juices.
