Modernizing Jane Austen

I hated reading Jane Austen in high school. I wonder if there is any money in re-translating some of these archaically written stories. Here is a translated letter.

500 DVD Server

“I built a 5-terabyte media server with 20 250GB hard drives–it uses a pair of 500-watt power supplies and has 12 fans running full blast to keep cool. It stores more than 500 of my DVDs, categorized by title, director etc., which it streams to my home-theater PC over a gigabit Ethernet connection.”

I wonder how many “DVD’s” this guy actually purchased.

Thom Yorke Turns Down Tony Blair

March 21, 2006 · Filed Under Music, Politics · Comment

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke says he turned down the chance to discuss climate change with Tony Blair because the British prime minister has “no environmental credentials.”

But the rock star from Radiohead does? I know what he means but this statement is still funny.

Feeling Old at Coldplay

Last night I went to the Coldplay show and Richard Ashcroft, formerly of The Verve, opened the show. I was sitting next to a 15 year old girl and her friend at the show and I told them who he was and mentioned that The Verve was famous for “Bitter Sweet Symphony.” The girl then said, “Oh yeah. What decade is that from?”

I guess being born around 1991 doesn’t lend itself to knowing what year “Bitter Sweet Symphony” was popular. Harumph.

Mark Cuban on DRM: “crack it”

March 20, 2006 · Filed Under Technology · Comment

Mark Cuban proves once again why he isn’t your average content creator. He says with the coming DRM storm, that owners need to take control of their purchased media, crack whatever restrictions are put on it, and make a backup copy in an accessible format so that you won’t be caught with lots of files and no venue to use them.

Brooke Hogan on Opie and Anthony

I was fearful that they were going to say something bad and Hulk was going to smash them with his withering pythons. Then Hulk said something about the countdown to her 18th birthday. Anyone else think pimping out your daughter is kinda dirty?

Transformers: The Movie

Transformers: The Movie is going to be a live action movie directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg

I wonder how they are going to pull off a live motion picture of morphing robots. If any two people are going to pull it off it would be Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg. Who do you think will play Optimus Prime? Will it just be a voice? This will be interesting.

Finally, a Working Cloaking Device

Check out the pictures at this article. Very cool.

Whether it was that crazy cape in Harry Potter movies that makes you invisible, or chameleons, people have always wanted the ultimate in camouflage. Now it might actually be here.

This would be especially fun at Halloween. I might actually be willing to dress up.

Is American Idol Over Yet?

March 15, 2006 · Filed Under Music, Television · 1 Comment

I think I might almost be done with the show. I have figured out who the winner is already. I don’t care what the rest of America thinks. Chris Daughtry is the best. He could easily make it with a band already. Nobody else on the show provides anything really groundbreaking and/or interesting. Ace stinks on ice with his child molester looks into the audience. The lispy Long Islander is a novelty. Mandisa has talent and should probably be the runner up. Taylor Hicks is interesting, but he belongs in front of a wedding band.

That’s it. It’s over.

Howard Stern Admits the Opie and Anthony Gag Order

March 15, 2006 · Filed Under Radio · Comment

Audio of Stern on Sean Hannity’s Radio Show

This is truly despicable. Where is the pride? Where is that sense of taking all comers? Sounds like the old guy lost his passion and energy for the game he created.

What a hypocrite.
