Sony BMG Copy Protection WHOOPS!

“We are aware that a computer virus is circulating that may affect computers with XCP content protection software,” the company said, adding that the software has been included on a limited number of Sony BMG titles, but emphasising, “This potential problem has no effect on the use of these discs in conventional, non-computer-based, CD and DVD players.”

So it didn’t just annoy the hell out of users who wanted to convert CD’s to a format so that they could put the music on a portable music player. It also made their systems vulnerable to outside hackers. Very nice.

So for those scoring at home. They pissed off customers. Didn’t copy protect anything all that effectively. Pissed off customers again by making them vulnerable to true evil-doers….

Yeah, this is how to run a business, I tell ya.

50 Cent Movie Pulled after Shooting

The Loews theater chain pulled rapper 50 Cent’s new film “Get Rich or Die Tryin’ ” from a theater near Pittsburgh after a man was shot to death in the lobby Wednesday night.

I would just like to point out that nobody was shot at the theater of Eddie and the Cruisers, The Commitments, or That Thing You Do, House Party or 8 Mile. Do you think there is something about 50 Cent’s music that promotes violence? Maybe it is the fact that he wears a bullet proof vest and promotes himself based on how many times he was shot. There are dangers to selling yourself on violence.

A Return to the Center?

House Republican leaders were forced to abruptly pull their $54 billion budget-cutting bill off the House floor yesterday, amid growing dissension in Republican ranks over spending priorities, taxes, oil exploration and the reach of government.

With Bush’s dropping popularity, the voices of Republicans sitting to the left of him are starting to be heard again. Maybe this means George W. Bush is running on an empty tank of “Political Capital.”

Friendster is a Spammer?

The one-time hot spot dug deep into its network to pull out the e-mail addresses of people who didn’t initially respond to friends’ invites to join the online social network a year or more ago. The e-mails implied they were coming from a friend when, in fact, they were being sent by the company.

Maybe Friendster should spend more time figuring out how to offer a service or feature that will get people to sign up rather than cajoling people with a shady misrepresentation?

Religion as Witchcraft

Conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson told citizens of a Pennsylvania town that they had rejected God by voting their school board out of office for supporting “intelligent design” and warned them Thursday not to be surprised if disaster struck.

Roberston does worse PR for God than anyone in America. He makes life more difficult for those who believe in God. This whole OOGA BOOGA philosophy that death and destruction will reign down upon the infidels sounds familiar. Maybe he should start doing VHS taped speeches.

Chuck Klosterman, author of a pretty fun book called Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto is making his debut writing for ESPN Page 2. He is a very fun conversational writer and I think you will dig it.

Stern “Suspended”

Howard Stern was reportedly suspended for talking about his move to Sirius Satellite too much on his radio show. Either that, or he decided to take a sick day or vacation day and released this “suspension” information all on his own. The promotion blitz is on folks.

This might be the most addictive game I have played in a long time. I love this type of build the army and dominate the world type of game. If you are a fan of any of these games, you should check it out.
