Dennis ‘Oil Can’ Boyd Returns
According to ESPN Insider, Dennis ‘Oil Can’ Boyd is attempting a comeback to the major leagues. He is 45 years old and is pitching. According to Boyd, he is pitching around 90 MPH and is throwing all his pitches. This is certainly an odd story. He also now throws a knuckleball apparently.

Why is that old dudes always throw the knuckle ball?
How many times have you ever heard of an amazing 19 year old prospect who throws a wicked knuckle ball?
Wouldn’t young pitchers want to learn a pitch that has crazy movement and prys on batters with poor pitch sight?
If OCB’s comeback falls short he has a place on my wiffleball team the Mentor Mooseknuckle anytime!
Steve Sparks was a relatively young knuckleballer. Not sure if he is still in the game, but…
Old knuckleballers became a cliche because of the Niekro brothers.
Those guys pitched until they were eligible for the free cup of coffee at Denny’s.
Isn’t part of it that throwing the knuckleball puts much less strain on your shoulder and elbow? Old guys throw it because they can.
I know it puts less stress on the elbow, but Imagine if some stud fastball pitcher who could throw mid 90’s broke someone off a 65 mph knuckle ball mid at bat…it would be devestating.
The Can pitched for the semipro team in Lynn, Mass. many years ago, and he was a sideshow.
Poor Can, man. He was the shit back in the day. He was the scariest pitcher ever to watch, but he was fun.
