Come on Ben…

Please don’t alienate your fans. You sing about girls and relationships and odd situations with a poetic voice. Everyone else is already talking about politics. I just want to hear the beautiful music. I understand you might want to speak your mind, but write it on a website or something. Don’t combine your message with the music. The music isn’t about that.

remind me why it is you are so against people using whatever outlets available to them to speak their minds or support a cause?
is it wrong for either member of death cab to be part of this? musicians are passionate people so i would think their involvement in current issues would be inevitable.
I think everyone should have an opinion and feel free to speak it. It’s about the time and place. I just think if you are an indie rock band that writes songs (really great songs) about girls you shouldn’t lose your focus and get caught up in some self-important thing about your opinions on politics. Write it on your website. Do an interview if you must. Don’t mix it onstage with the music that I want to be a fan of unless they are somehow intertwined.
In business they call it “unrelated diversification.”
Why would Microsoft ever open a chain of pancake houses in the south? They wouldn’t because they have no experience, expertise or specific competency in that business.
The same would be true of a band that writes about love and relationships talking about politics.
The good news is they’re performing in swing states. Maybe in Ohio we’ll get a Death Cab/Bruce Springsteen split bill. That would be my dream.
Death Cab and Pearl Jam are coming to Toledo.
Wouldn’t it be great if every band was more like The Archies?
