Certainly seems pretty dopey on the face of it. As a way to sell more records and/or get his listeners to vote, I guess I’d need more information to know whether it worked well or not.
It seems rather dastardly and off-handed in the name of driving some sales for a guy who couldn’t sell all that many by himself. It is political T & A. It is meaningless drivel. The censoring is definitely retarded. Trying to sell records by throwing an inexplicable line in a song and then wanting to talk about it to anyone who will listen after the fact is retarded.
Inexplicable… I wouldn’t call the line inexplicable. Some people believe that Bush’s foreign policy, or his father’s, helped cause the terrorist attacks. “Hard to justify”? Maybe.
So for how many 1000’s of years have people put crap in their art in order to make a stink about it? This is nothing new. Go read Dante’s Inferno… the whole damn thing is politicized. And do we still read him today? Yes. Did he sell a shit-load of copies? Yes. Did CNN make an aritcle about it? Yes (ok, no, not really, but they would have). Will we listen to Jackasskiss in 800 years… probably not.

I say: Not retarded. I agree that “artists” often put random or controversial things in their work in order to spark dialogue. I am actually pleasantly surprised that Jadakiss could actually discuss political issues and voting in a relatively intelligent manner. Moreover, if Jadakiss was able to encourage even one young person to register AND vote in the next election with that song,then he has done enough for me.
