Of Course…
I know you guys think I bitch and complain a lot, but check this wonderful story out. Notice how many of these have occurred in my lifetime and you will know a little bit about why Red Sox and Cubs fans don’t get a whole lot of sympathy from me.

Dude, Boston & Chicago can’t hold a handle they have titles in the past 48 years. The only titles we have brought home are indoor soccer! I have this story linked at my site also. Finally someone agrees w/ us!
We don’t want your sympathy. We’ll take the super bowl rings.
Exactly my point. You never have asked for my sympathy, but every year when I hear the obligatory story (hehe rhyming is cool) about Chicago and/or Boston “maybe winning it all after such a long time” it makes my head want to explode.
WHAT ABOUT ME. WHERE ARE MY OVERLY DRAMATIC STORIES? WHY DOES MY PAIN GO UNRECOGNIZED WHILE FANS WITH SUPERBOWLS AND MEMORIES OF LARRY BIRD AND MICHAEL JORDAN GET REVERED AS TORTURED SPORTS FANS??!?!!?? AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!
I feel like a pissed off Charley Brown.
I think people tend to pick one team and equate that team’s failure with the city, regardless of what else might be happening. Boston is the Red Sox, and so Boston is tortured. Chicago is the Cubs and White Sox. And so on. Nevermind the Celtics and Bulls kicking ass when they did. Nevermind the Bears having one of the most dominant NFL teams ever and beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Nevermind the three other Super Bowl trips and two wins the Pats have had since then. Nevermind the Bruins and Blackhawks going to the playoffs for like 22 straight seasons.
Tougher to do with Cleveland, because we don’t know who to focus on. The Browns, I guess.
Also, while the 97 Indians blowing it was certainly as big and as bad as any of the Red Sox collapses, the Sox have done it pretty consistently for 90 years. Repetition is the key. If the Indians dramatically blow a World Series in the 7th game every 15 or 20 years for the next 50 years, they’ll take over as most pitied MLB team.
I forgot about the indoor soccer thing. Shut up.
