Anger for the Sake of Anger
This guy really doesn’t like Forrest Gump. Doesn’t seem like a whole lot of respect for one of the best movies of my time here on this earth. I am usually the first one to criticize Tom Hanks for tackling the real low-hanging fruit available to affect audiences, but Forrest Gump was brilliantly written.

Kind of an interesting take on the movie, though. Forrest is clueless and so he’s happy. Jenny (and other characters: Lt. Dan, etc) have harder times in life even though they are “in the know.”
Forrest Gump is one of those movies I wish I could say I don’t like, but it’s really quite good. It’s definitely hokey and maybe a little hackneyed, but it’s good, damnit. Oh, how I wish it weren’t. Did I mention I’m still mad that it beat Pulp Fiction for best film?
I was mad too, until I learned a bit more about Pulp Fiction. I saw Reservoir Dogs later and realized it uses the same story-telling technique. Then I heard that it wasn’t even an original technique. I like the movies that Tarantino makes, but I can also understand why they weren’t rewarded.
Also, after talking to a friend who is a Hollywood insider, I don’t put much weight in the Oscars anymore. He has clued me into the fact that it is like a big bribery contest where the studios straddle the lines of sanity with their “campaigns” in support of certain films that they feel they can raise sales of by getting awards. This at least explains the success of “The English Patient” which was one of the biggest pieces of shit I have watched.
Damn stupid guys taking all the good roles. Screwing it up for everyone. Damn.
