ATM’s Rigged to Steal
March 19, 2004 · Filed Under Uncategorized
There is a new scam that people are using to find out your ATM number. Check out this site for pictures of how the scam is pulled off. It’s actually a pretty genius plan, although I would think that because there are cameras on an ATM, they could catch the guy who puts this device on the ATM pretty easily. Either way, watch out for it.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. The funny thing was that Bank of America wouldn’t tell me where my number was skimmed, even though I knew it had to be one of their own ATM’s because I hate to pay $4.50 in fees. Once I found out what really happened, the branch manager tried to assure me that the device was removed before the theives could get my number. That is so nice of them to say considering they allowed it to be installed on their own ATM for 2 weeks before they found it. Needless to say I have all new cards now due to the wonderful (insert sarcasm) customer service I received from the nation’s largest bank.
Also interesting that article came from a UT website. I guess it’s more of a problem here then I thought.
Did you at least get a free 10 piece baking kit, or a toaster? Or a free picnic-sized igloo cooler? You should have gotten that stuff too.
