This was clearly written before the whole Geek Chic thing, before Gossip Girl, and before a bunch of other things like skinny ties. The key seems to be that it should be worn semi-ironically. It should be fitted, be short-sleeve not half-sleeve, and be paired with an appropriate tie - not one from your everyday collection.

We had the same problem with Home Depot when ordering faux wooden blinds for the entire house. Windows were measured wrong; when the blinds arrived, most did not fit; installers did not know how to shorten the blinds to fit the windows as they were supposed to. The saleswoman, the manager, the customer service line, and even the chairman's office either ignored us or tried to blame this all on us! Now I drive past their store to Lowe's and send them an email telling them how much I spent at Lowe's!

Theres different situations that poeple are in, such as my dad was adopted. And it just so happens to be that my girls last name is the same as my moms maiden name. We are most likely going with her lastname.

If you are having trouble figuring out the IP address from remote, what you need to do is go to a computer in your house. Open a browser and google "What's my IP?"

From there go to one of the websites to figure out what IP address is assigned to the cable/DSL modem in your house. That IP address listed there is the one you will want to use for remote viewing.

The IP address I was talking about is an internal IP address on the local network. Most have a standard set of numbers like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. I had to map the internal static IP address so that the router would allow Slingbox data to be broadcast outside the home network.

>Then I finally figure out that I had to go into >the Slingbox setup itself to make sure that the >Slingbox knows it is mapped to this new IP address >on the network. Sure enough, I had it mapped to >the old address and as soon as I matched it up >with the static IP that I had the MAC assigned to, >it worked.

We have a problem connecting with the slingbox remotely. How can you find out what IP address the slingbox is mapped to? Where is this information in the slingbox setup? Thanks!

Wow, I'm shocked by the contempt that a number of you have for the combination of a short-sleeve dress shirt and a tie! While the look doesn't work for all men, there are many who can pull it off very well. I'm one of them. I actually think I look handsome in a short-sleeve dress shirt, a tie, a baggy pair of 100% wool dress pants and black dress shoes. I top it off with gel in my hair and a mild version of the bed-head look. While I wouldn't wear the short sleeves to a job interview, I do intend to try to get away with it once I've switched jobs. I've seen other men look stylish in short-sleeve dress shirts and ties too. A few times on my way to work about a year ago, I passed a man in his 20s with reddish blonde hair who wore khaki pants, a light green short-sleeve dress shirt and a light tan tie. I commend him for his fashion sense because the look was brilliant! I also used to pass a 20-something man who was either Hispanic or Italian-American and often wore a light tan or light gray short-sleeve dress shirt with a black tie and baggy, black dress pants. His look was also fantastic! When I worked at an airport, there were two young guys besides me who wore short-sleeve dress shirts and ties to work and looked fashionable. One of them would sometimes even wear short sleeves on frigid days in January. In a TV commercial, the guy on the phone whose co-worker wanted to borrow his car is yet another example of men who are stylish in short sleeves and a tie. I also went to an office one evening and saw a man in a striped, short-sleeve dress shirt; a tie; and baggy, taupe dress pants made of wool. With all of the above and his gold watch, he looked very sophisticated yet also down to earth. I support my short-sleeved brethren with ties who dare to be different but also wish that this look would be considered acceptable in the office.

Now, while everything that I've said above may have led you to believe that I'm either a computer nerd or a Joe Sixpack who yells at the TV with his buddies during football games, spills popcorn on the floor, tries to see who's the best at smashing a beer can on his head and wishes that he could wear a jeans, a sports jersey and a baseball cap to work, I'm actually not. I'm thirty years old, college educated and trilingual, and I mainly enjoy classical arts and traditional culture. In addition, I have a significantly formal way of speaking. I'm not haughty, though, and I try to convey that as often as possible with my attire. Many of us men who wear short-sleeve dress shirts with ties look professional yet also approachable. We're fit for the office, but we're also not snobs or corporate robots. We're hard working and dependable, and we're human beings. I hope that a short-sleeve dress shirt with a tie will someday be considered an acceptable combination in business environments, but I also admit that I hope it will never become mainstream. I want to be unique with my look. It wouldn't be fun if everyone else dressed the same way. I want to enjoy my uniqueness, and I want my scattered, short-sleeved brethren with ties to do the same. Meanwhile, I want the business world to accept us fully. I also want to wear short-sleeve dress shirts and ties while I still can because the day will come when I'm too old for this style. So, here's to short-sleeve dress shirts with ties and us guys who look stylish in them! May we enjoy great success in the workforce!
