So, I found all kinds of information about how to reset my phone, but none of those sites told me what would happen after I did so. Maybe everyone already knows, but I have to say that I didn’t.
Will I lose everything including my phone number settings? Will I have to go to the Verizon store in order to get it back up and running? I figured that was unlikely, but I didn’t know for sure. As it turns out, I was right and you don’t have to go to the store.
After resetting, I went through the setup prompts and my phone dialed a *228 for reactivation. The phone call went through and everything was successfully reprogrammed. So, even if it did de-program the number, as long as you have access to a VZW tower, you can restore it.
How about purchased apps? They will all be wiped clean, but once you re-establish your Google login during phone setup, you can log into Market and find them. DO NOT LOG INTO MARKET BEFORE ESTABLISHING YOUR GOOGLE LOGIN INFO FIRST. I don’t know if it is catastrophic, but a couple of message boards made it sound like it could make things more difficult.
As always, it is a good idea to back things up like pictures, etc. You can find that info elsewhere.
So, in order to reset your phone you can hold the Down Volume and Power Buttons on power up, or you can select factory reset in the Menu / settings / privacy /factory reset.
Hopefully now you can do it without fear.
