DeShawn Stevenson Wants to Fight LeBron

March 20, 2008 · Filed Under Blog, Sports

After a Cavs’ loss to the Washington Wizards DeShawn Stevenson said of LeBron James, “He’s overrated.  And you can say I said that.”  Apparently he and LeBron had been jawing on the court since the opening tip of the game.  The Cavs had a chance to win, but LeBron missed a game-winning three pointer and the Cavs lost by two… in Washington… on the second night of a back to back after playing the previous night in New Jersey… After embarrassing Washington by beating them with a starting five of LeBron James, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Devin Brown, Damon Jones and Eric Snow in Cleveland after the big trade.   I guess I might be salty too if my team couldn’t beat a team made up of also-rans and NBDL’ers the way the Cavs were on the night that they embarrassed the Wizards in Cleveland.

But I guess that would lead one to understand just how LeBron James isn’t overrated in any way shape or form.  And certainly such criticisms ring hollow when they come spewing out of the mouth of a player like DeShawn Stevenson who never lived up to the hype like the target of his criticism.

Just like LeBron, Stevenson skipped out on college to enter the NBA.  Unlike LeBron, Stevenson couldn’t get his career going between his off-the-court problems including charges of statutory rape for an incident allegedly involving a 14-year-old girl when he was 20, and his splintered ass from not being able to find his way off of an NBA bench, he is probably quite jealous of The King.  Maybe it was the sweep that LeBron and company hung on the Wizards in last year’s playoffs?

Either way, despite the victory that the Wizards put up on the Cavs the other night, it is safe to say that DeShawn Stevenson is still LeBron’s bitch.  And by the way, whenever someone says any variation of, “And you can quote me on that” after their quote, they even know they are full of shit.

G-Lid, you’ve got to stop paying attention so much attention to things professional athletes say. That way madness lies…

read first then edit then post is what should I do…

If I avoided madness, I would have nothing to write about. I did re-read the article and I did give the sense that I was genuinely pissed off about this. I really am not. I take Stevenson about as seriously as LeBron did. Still, it is fun to smack a guy, especially one as delusional as Stevenson.

Also, this post did lead me to one conclusion. Whenever someone says, “You can quote me on that” they are usually talking out of their ass. Just like when someone says, “I don’t care!” they probably do.

i guess it depends on how highly you think he’s rated. personally i think LBJ is a touch overrated, not because he’s lacking any fundimental awesomeness at basketbal, but because he’s held to a higher standard of nearly diety-like status among certain crowds.

Yea, he’s amazing on the court. He’s decent with a mic in front of him and he’s in pretty good shape – but the whole King James thing kind of turns me off.

He single-handedly took the Cavs past Detroit last year in the Eastern Conference finals. Short of single-handedly beating the Spurs, I don’t know what else he could possibly have done.

If that is overrated, then I guess he is, but I don’t think that is accurate.

When people say he’s the best player in the league or the most exciting and he lives up to the billing, then he’s not overrated. My wife was down on him, thinking that he was over-hyped and a prima donna when he was drafted. She is now his biggest supporter, not only because of his ability in basketball, but more because of his off-the-court, out-of-the-limelight contributions to the community.

lebron is yes the best player in the leauge right now. i agree he may be overrated a little even though im a huge cavs and lebron james fan. people will always say lebron is overrated until he wins a championship and until that happens people can say whatever. i dont think it was right of deshawn stevenson to say this cuz lebron will be ready for the playoffs. i dont only like lebron cuz of his on court skills, i also like how he gives back to the community. wants others to succeed in what they want to be. i give lebron a lot of credit for what he has done to the cavs. his first two years no playoffs but now they made it every year, winning the eastern conference and making it to the nba finals and hopefully making it this year.
