Kevin Hart and College Recruiting’s Craziest Story Ever
Kevin Hart wanted to play D-1 college football more than anything else in the world. He reported for a long time that he was trying to decide whether to go to Cal or Oregon. Seriously, that must have been a really hard choice. Finally, in an assembly in front of the entire school, Hart commits to a late switch from his Oregon dreams and commits to Cal, saying that he would sign his letter of intent to play there on Wednesday February 6th – National Signing Day.
“They really won me over,” Hart, who will be the first Fernley athlete to receive a full scholarship to a Division I school directly out of high school, said of the Golden Bears. “Coach (Jeff) Tedford and I talked a lot, and the fact that the head coach did most of the recruiting of me kind of gave me the real personal experience.”
Nevada, Illinois and Oklahoma State were also on Hart’s final list.
“I’m sure it won’t hit me until I hit the practice field and get welcomed to the Pac-10,” said Hart, who informed Tedford of his decision Monday.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pound left guard — listed as a two-star prospect by rivals.com — will redshirt next season, and said he could play guard or center college.
Next thing you know, some questions were raised about Hart’s commitment to the school – namely that Cal had never recruited him to begin with. Come to think of it, neither had Oregon.
In fact, Mike Hart made the whole thing up completely.
I feel sorry for the kid. It doesn’t justify that he made the whole thing up. It doesn’t excuse this monumentally ignorant level of stupidity. I wonder how he had it all planned in his head? Did he expect that despite all his lies that one of the schools would look at his resume real quick and decide to let him play? Did he figure he could just fool everyone like he was that chick who wanted to be a dude in Just One of the Guys?
No such luck. A for effort, I guess. Just look at that picture above with the two hats next to each other. Did he have to ask the athletic director to go to “Lidz” to purchase those for the assembly? Will his prom date agree to go to prom with him still? Will he be able to go back to school and face his classmates at all? Oof.

Hart also claimed to have paid a recruiting middleman hundreds of dollars to help him acquire scholarship offers He said the mans name was Kevin Riley. Interestingly enough, Kevin Riley is the name of Cal’s backup quarterback, who was MVP in Cal’s Armed Forces Bowl victory.
Hart claimed to have had extensive phone conversations with Coach Jeff Tedford of Cal. If this story hadn’t recently broken, one might have envisioned Tedford and his QB Riley sitting in the coaching office at the conclusion of National Signing Day, throwing back brews and joking about how hey had duped a dumb high school football player.
