Kevin Covais is Gone and Chris Daughtry’s False Praises
I never watch the results show, so I got the Kevin Covais news this morning from CNN.com. This kid had to go. I understand that his high school is almost done preparing for their spring musical, Little Shop of Horrors, and they need Kevin to go there and pretend he isn’t a loser while getting chomped on by a muppet plant.
Alright, I know that is a little bit harsh, but come on. This kid skated by on the novelty factor for too many weeks now. He just isn’t a polished singer and he lisps when he sings. The good news is that he is 16 and has the chance to figure out some things in the coming years. I am betting that once his 15 minutes runs out he will get sad and brooding for a while and start listening to rock music. A better thing couldn’t possibly happen to this kid. Listen to some good tunes, learn to play an instrument and give it a real shot.
Seriously, could any of you imagine what this kid’s first album would have been like? No? Well then he isn’t a possibility to be a winner on the show.
Now, on to Chris Daughtry. I still think he is the best singer on the show, but we need to get someone with some musical knowledge on this show. Randy Jackson, Simon, and of course, Paula, all got fooled this week by Chris Daughtry. They were flinging compliments around like he had just re-written Stairway to Freaking Heaven. Hasn’t anyone else in this world has heard of the band Live with albums like Mental Jewelry, Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi? They already re-wrote I Walk the Line in the alternative rock way that Chris Daughtry performed the song. So, while I think Chris did a good job, let’s not get too crazy here. He was covering a cover version of the song just like he did last week with Higher Ground.
And honestly, doesn’t it bother anyone else that he was a fan of Higher Ground and didn’t know that the Red Hot Chili Peppers borrowed that song from Stevie Wonder?
I still think Chris is going to win, but if everyone would wake up a little bit, I would appreciate it. He is by far the best American Idol contestant this season, but he isn’t even close to displaying the kind of musicianship that many of the great band leaders in this country show on a daily basis. Lots of bands do cover songs every year and they do amazing things with them. Chris hasn’t done anything but cover the cover versions of songs that are already out there.
Good? Yes. Groundbreaking? Not a chance.

Speaking of covers, I found a bootleg copy of the Deftones covering Say It Aint So by Weezer from Kroq’s almost acoustic xmas…it’s fantastic!
It is fantastic. It is funny that you mention Weezer too because I was really thinking of Rivers Cuomo when I was talking about the brilliant musicianship of band leaders in this country today.
i still can’t believe you’re dedicating time/effort/bandwidth to American Freaking Idol. Sometimes I think we should just do John Mayer covers.
It’s a bit unfair to slam Chris for covering songs - that’s what everyone does on American Idol, for pete’s sake. You really wanna see some of his “musicianship”, go to http://www.chrisdaughtryfans.com/american-idol-music.html and listen to “Conviction”.
Now I wouldn’t slam him for doing covers, but I thought some of the praise of his performance last night was a bit overdone. He was good, but they acted like he wrote the song that way and it is really just Live’s version.

Get your freakn heads out of your butts! Chris is one heck of a good sing. Plus he is super sexy!! Wanted dead or alive was an awsome preformance. About Kevin, Does making fun of a 16 year old child make you people feel better about yourselfs or something?? I bet half you people can’t sing half as good as he did. Get a freakn life!! Stop harassing children for God’s sakes!! By the way that chicken little kid is probly better people then you are anyway i bet if the small chance that you got on the show he wouldn’t be making fun of you so i think you should go find some ants to burn!!!!!!
First so-called “Chicken Little” did it from his heart guys! Give him the credit for that atleast. He may not have had the best vocals, but he meant well and he was 1/2 way decent!!
And Second: Chris is great! He has got GREAT vocals and is the perfect picture for the next American Idol. I can think of only 1 song his pitch was a little bad or the movin wasn’t that smoothe, but other than that…Chris has EXTREME talent! He isn’t only great at Rock but he can NAIL Country too, so don’t go dissin’ on one of the BEST!

Most of you are familiar with the hit show American Idol.
If you watched this hit show last week you know about the nuts decision that was made.
CHRIS went home!!!! Chris Daughtry. The best idol ever and those idiots actually had the guts to send him home. Everybody was speechless the night he left American Idol.
I my self thought that Kathryn McCphee would be sent home but no the one with the best voice went.
I could have sworn that American Idol was who had the best voice would win. I guess its who ever has the best voice loses.
I don’t mean to put Kathryn down like that but it just doesn’t seem right, well she doesn’t seem right.
I mean she has a good vocal range in her. But theirs something about her that nobody likes. But sadly nobody knows what that is.
My mother and I think it was a horrible decision for this kind man to be kicked off.

Chris was so cute and he sang so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so good! now… Kevin is a different story he is butt ugly and he sang horrible! i cant believe chris is gone! everyone loves him!
