Day Five of my Diet
I can’t really remember the last time I went on a diet. I don’t think I have ever really needed to diet. At the same time, I can’t really remember a time when I was a totally skinny guy. I have been basically the same weight since I had my knee surgeries in high school (fluctuating between 215-230), but I decided that now is the time to drop some poundage.
I was eating out too much and eating portions that were far too big. It was a series of moments that got me thinking that now was the time for a strict diet. One moment in particular that made me realize I might need to change my habits is when I was hanging with Deezo a few weeks back. We both got calzones from some local little deli and they were huge. Deezo gave in and said uncle before finishing his calzone as I was packing away the last bite of mine. Deezo is a much bigger dude than I am, (around 6′2″ vs. around 5′10″) and I put him to shame in the eating department on that day. Not to mention the fact that it was a greasy, meaty, cheesy, crust-wrapped pocket of saturated fatty goodness that I pounded down. Needless to say, I was eating the wrong things, and certainly not eating them in moderation.
So anyway, my diet has begun and I am on day five. I am not doing any of those diets with names, but I am paying attention to lots of things from a variety of diets and I am going to see how it goes. Here are the things I am doing.
- I am eating more often
- Eating much smaller portions
- No white bread
- More fruits and vegetables
- No eating after 7 pm
- Drink lots of water
- Drink less coffee
- Drink WAY less beer (I had one beer this week)
- Exercise more (at least 3 times per week up from 0 times in the last few months)
- Eating lower fat items
- Although I never drink it anyway, No Coke, Pop, Soda, Mountain Dew, Sprite, Pepsi, Mr. Pibb, Dr. Pepper or anything else like that under any name you can think of.
That’s it so far. I am sure more rules will be added to the list. I feel like I have made it through the hardest times already. I was starving at around 10 pm the first two nights, and it was miserable. But, it is getting better already and hopefully the band’s promo shots that I posted in the last few weeks will serve as some cool “before” photos over the next couple of months.

Craig,
You know you beat Deezo because of the strict calzone training you had here in Boston, not to mention training from the world’s fastest eater(who will be having an endoscopy for stomach problems soon). I applaud your change in habits.
Second, I cant help but feel partially responsible, especially after the comparison to Jack Osbourne a week back.

Don’t feel too responsible. By the time you said that on that post I had already purchased the scale and set my start date. In terms of stomach problems, I can tell you that I have already cut my consumption of Tums to zero. Apparently all that garbage was contributing to my heart burn. Who would have thought?
By the way, I might have to call a weekend off of the diet for your bachelor party in Montreal. I know I am going to break the beer portion of the diet, anyway.

All I can say is stick the frick with it. I went on what I called “Atkins Lunch”, where I would eat Triscuits, lunchmeat and cheese.
I know Triscuits aren’t low-carb, but they’re packed with fiber, so they’re good carbs in my mind.
Short term it sucks, there’s no gettin’ around that, but it will pay off “huge” in the end.
Kudos-

i hereby challenge the “fastest eater” to a fast eating contest. that means you. I hold the claim to fame in my sector of America.

Craig,
I implore you to have Kiddicus retract his challenge before someone gets hurt. He doesnt know who he is dealing with when it comes to eating fast.
Aside: Has anyone watching the US Open of competitive eating on ESPN. Its been on a few times in the last week or so. Kobayashi, the ho dog guy, is amazing. HE ate 13 pounds of spaghetti bolognese in like 8 minutes. I may not be the worlds fastest, I guess.

The US Open of Competitive Eating is awesome! I didn’t get to see the Spaghetti mathces, but I watched the cheese fries qualifier. Kobiyashi ate like 6 lbs of cheese fries in 10 minutes! It was ridiculos!

Now, I am not sure about Kiddicus’ prowess in eating, because frankly we haven’t had many meals together, but we should figure out the events.
Chris, I know you are something of a picky eater, so we would have to discover what foods you and Kiddicus would go head to head with.
I will say that when it comes to eating piping hot food quickly, Chris D is totally unwilling to let foods cool off before he inhales them, ala BPE’s calzones.
Should we try and find a neutral food?

i have no qualms with any food, aside from seafood. its gross. any meat, pasta, bread, or combination thereof is fair game. and i will be victorious.
