Gone too Far
This is ONE left winger who has taken hatred of the president and his war just a little bit too far. I am not making a blanket statement about the left here, as most people never get to this point. And… it made me really mad over at blogcritics.
I wrote about Pat Tillman who was killed in action in Afghanistan after joining the military after 9/11. Keep in mind I said nothing about the war. My post easily could have been written by anyone on either side of the political center.
In response to my Pat Tillman article, this was said:
- Craig, you post nonsense like the above and expect people to just go along with it? No way. There’s no avoiding the facts, i.e.:
*There is a paucity of evidence to prove Iraq has anything to do with 9/11. Instead, the evidence supports the view that Bush Jr. intended to invade Iraq from the get go as a continuation of Bush, Sr.’s policies and for the oil.
*There is plenty of evidence to establish that Bush, Cheney and their cronies will benefit from the invasion of Iraq, and related actions.
So, Tillman went off to kill people to forward the interests of Bush, Cheney and their cronies. His actions may have no impact on terrorism. Apparently, his jock’s GPA is not evidence of good reasoning skills.
I do find the part of the entry when his coach says Tillman sought out danger while in college telling. It suggests someone who wants to die.
I cringe for Arthur Ashe. Right Wingers have hijacked his name and are using it to imply he would approve of the invasion of Iraq, which I doubt he would have.
To think that a guy like Tillman was off-base joining the military after 9/11 seems ludicrous. He was really just trying to further the Bush agenda? I don’t think so. I find that comment not only wrong, but offensive. I feel like what Tillman did was patriotic and selfless no matter in which way people at the top ended up pushing him.
He joined because we were terrorized and he wanted to do his part to fight for our freedoms. That is nothing but patriotic and noble. I fail to see what the Bush agenda has to do with it, as he wasn’t in those meetings with Bush.

This is from the same even-handed genius who called you a “tacit racist” or something similar, right? Tillman was killed in Afghanistan, not Iraq. He was just a kid, and her editorial analysis is asinine. Get off BlogCritics before you burst a blood vessel.
Yes, I’m sure Pat Tillman WANTED to die. That’s absurd. It’s a shame when people let political views come between showing compassion for other human beings and their families. Any way you look at it, a man gave up fame and fortune to do something he thought was right. That’s admirable.
And I agree with Chris… Don’t let Blogcritics drive you crazy.
I don’t let it drive me crazy. Sometimes I love showing the rest of you what politics is like over there. For the most part I am only doing music reviews so I can keep sane.
And yes Chris, she called me a silently complicit racist I think.
The worst part about the Tillman story is that he clearly left the NFL and joined the military because he felt obligated to try to do something for his country. That’s a tremendously noble thing, and a lot more rare in the military than some of us would like to be believe.
I would never join the military. Not because I don’t love America or think freedom needs to be defended sometimes, because it does. And I like to think anyway that it’s not because I’m a coward. I don’t trust the government. I don’t trust the people in charge at the Pentagon to make good decisions, and I don’t trust the president - be he Republican or Democrat - with my life. Plus I have a major problem with authority. (”Go fuck yourself,” is something I envision myself saying to a superior were he to berate me.) But that’s neither here nor there. My point is all of the people in the armed forces are volunteers, who signed up for a profoundly dangerous job. I am amazed that people seem surprised by their deaths. And further amazed that other people seem to get mentioned by Brokaw as an afterthought while we are all treated to The Life And Times of Pat Tillman.
And I’ll bet you $15,000 a picture of Mr. Tillman winds up in some of Bush’s reelection materials.
As for the shithead on blogcritics, I agree with Chris. Run, don’t walk, off of that website. It’s bad for you.
